It's by Lawrence Alma-Tadema. He was a master at drawing the viewer into the scene.

Thanks for sharing. I've just been doing some reading on him. I think you posted "An Eloquent Silence" a while ago. I felt somehow awkward intruding on their

private moment but intrigued as to what might have been their situation. A "marbellous painter"!
