I heard I2P and NYM are attempts at replacing Tor, but I’ve yet to verify if they do so effectively. It’s on my to-do list. Nym is newer, video on it below:

I2P has been around for a while I used it before tor
There is also Lokinet. No need for a special browser if installing on PC and you can also set up an armbian device like raspberry pi to be a wifi access point to give you acces to their onion routed network. I can vouch that it's way faster than Tor. You need to use the Linux build though as that is always the best supported one.
Would be nice if there were a way to incentivize TOR relays without the proof-of-stake model that Lokinet and NYM uses. Been meaning to explore this one-day, perhaps with Sats4Files and Lightning — not sure if it’s possible, but I’ll explore this eventually.
Don't know if you know but Jeff (lead lokinet developer who created it) resigned/quit Oxen. I showed him what we talked about on telegram. Below is his response

yea let them know i am up for doing lokinet atop such
if LN or btc people want to fund dev i'm open to the prospect.
they'll get the features they want
stakeless lokinet could scale, certainly MUCH more so than tor
Thanks for chatting with him.
Sats4Files requires an advancement for Lightning called Eltoo, which we won’t get without a softfork. I’m currently scoping out sidechains that I could quickly build Eltoo on for a Sats4Files beta. Once we get that working, I’ll reach out so he can begin tinkering.
We must walk before we run.
FYI - He said you can DM him on Twitter whenever you want or email him.
