the fact that you have to consult a fee chart before you are brave enough to use this as a response is proof that your argument is faulty. we both know that L1 fees are high all the time and they are intended to go higher. a good L2 would enable self-custody without mandating L1 transactions. you can't make that happen with payment channel tech.

Fees are volatile on chain. If you wait it out you can get into a block at a reasonable rate.

There are no other L2's on any sh$tcoin that work decentralized like LN. Its the best L2 so far. You could make it more centralized so you pay low fees and it's instant, but that has problems that are worse (censorship).

You think you can do better, build it!

you are willing to overlook the limitations of lightning today because it is built on bitcoin. I doubt that you are able to evaluate it fairly. lightning suffers from centralization and UX issues too and you are just pretending it's not a big deal. if lightning was first introduced for another currency, you would find reasons why it falls short that don't have to do with that other currency.

There are any LN channels. Its essentially a 2/2 multisig. AKA peer to peer.

You can't get more decentralized than that.
