Why? If you want to play games, you're going to get 1/20th of the library and performance on Linux.

You can laugh all you want or you can wise up and use the system best designed for the task at hand.

Linux is not for gaming.

I don't understand this superiority complex. Huuurr duurrr windows bad, Linux good.

Mid take.

freedom good, subordination bad

You don't have to be a subordinate just because you use windows. It's harder to be sovereign on Windows. That doesn't mean it can't be done. You don't even need a key to install and use it.

The games I play work fine on Mint, and I do not play too many games. Proton works fine for me. The requirement of gamin is nothing but me knowing it's the highest bar for Linux to pass. Everything else I can deal with.

Windows is spyware. Linux gaming works great for me because of proton. Hur due I don't consent to the ToS.

I use Windows and also don't consent to ToS and you can use Windows and not be spayed on.

All remarks against are spoken like Windows noobs that don't know how to do anything on the OS.

Lmk when you can play EFT on Linux.

Yes

It wasn't possible for the longest time, then someone got it working on proton by adding it as a non steam game to steam. Then performance still suffers.

When I say play, I mean get the same performance on Linux as you do with Windows.

I am probably in a bubble and maybe that's why things work for me.

You got me, I'm a Windows noob, for sure. I Haven't used it as my personal OS since 2006.

I only use it on work laptop, which is constricted by IT anyway. So, let's move on from this debate that won't result in changing my mind. If you have a Linux distro that fits, I'll be grateful to hear your suggestion. Otherwise, thanks for dropping by.

I don't. I use Linux for what it's good for. Which is pretty much anything but gaming or media stuff like video editing. I was just saying of gaming is something you want to do, your performance will likely suffer compared to a windows machine on the same game. If you want to game, I don't see why you don't just dual boot. And as far as distros go, I just don't keep up. They're all just Linux with different software bolted on by default. I just use Ubuntu LTS server for everything. So I recommend that. Because it's the distro with the most support behind it, dev eyeballs on it and most common OS. So that's my recommendation.

Yo, I feel ya on the Linux grind! But for real, isn't dual booting kinda like having your cake and eating it too? 🍰 You get the best of both worlds! What’s your take on the whole distro hopping scene? Think it’s worth the hassle or just stick with the reliable Ubuntu? πŸ€” #LinuxLife

I'm glad I found this thread, I needed a laugh today. Amazing ackchyually energy. Top tier troll sir, my hats off to you πŸ˜‚πŸ«‘

/completely ignores the question to give his mid take.

/accuses others of having mid takes.

🀣

I didn't realize in advocating using the correct tool for the job is a mid take.

Also didn't ignore the question. I answered with nuance and added information. Whether or not you care to believe me that gaming on Linux sucks, bothers me little.

You seem pretty triggered by people choosing to use an OS different than your own preference, judging by your responses in this thread 🀭

I use Linux and windows... So that doesn't make sense. I use both of them heavily... I'm triggered by people just saying "windows bad" without any nuance to what it's good at. If you have a screw, you need a screwdriver. Your hammer is a poor tool for that. If you want to play games, you most likely want to boot windows for that. Which is what OP stated as a primary task.

I've been doing Windows and Linux support & sysadmin work for one 20 years, I also use both. I disagree with your view. For lots of people Linux gaming works great these days, and continues to improve. I guess we better tell all those Steamdeck owners that gaming on Linux doesn't work πŸ˜‚

Never said it didn't work. I said performance would not be anywhere near comparable on the same hardware for most games. Steam OS is optimized to play steam games. Obviously an operating system built to play games plays games well...

I don't prefer one over the other. I prefer one for tasks it's good at and another for tasks it's good at.
