Zap is a tip or "thanks". I think likes and zaps coexist well side by side.

Also with likes one has some sense how many people see the note. Helps with "shouting into the black digital void" effects for people with small nr of followers.

Yeah exactly. Also, people like me who dont have a lightning address because its way too custodial for now, rather want a neutral like instead of a reposting it.

Yep, likes are useful and reliable. I zapped some people with custom amount and it doesn't show onder the note for some reason. It is also more complex than one tap like and (obviously) you have to have funds in your wallet to zap. Not great for newbies.
