A question about #nostr and #freedom

The decentralised nature of Nostr means that once something is posted it can’t really be deleted. Some relays might respect the request to be deleted but there’s no guarantee.

How does this conflict with the aim of freedom we’re pushing for?

Isn’t the right to have something withdrawn or be forgotten a part of freedom?

The difference with #Nostr is you have an option! Check out https://nostr.how/en/relays for more, but I thought this screenshot would answer your question on being absolutely uncensorable. 👍🏼

Thanks for the info. If I understand correctly. If you only posted to your personal relay then you would have full control over removing your own posts.

That isn’t going to suit 99% of use cases as users will want to use popular, public relays that lots of users use.

I think most use cases would be popular, public relays that aren’t censoring users, that seems to be the ethos of the #Nostr protocol. Having to run your own relay won’t be necessary for most. The important distinction here is there is an option, whereas with Twitter there isn’t.
