Java was just very popular among newbies back then. I know him IRL and I studied with him in the same university. At the first grade of uni when I met him, I was junior dev who just finished one year of working at small local company. I never coded in Java back then, but in JavaScript, Python and some PHP. Probably we matched by shared interest in programming, Eastern philosophies and by some degree of a fact that he's vegetarian. I was not vegetarian and am not. Though I tried go veg for 3 years straight prior to the first date year, to find an "inner peace" in chronic depression while lacking F things.
