General society has a problem with women in comedy for some reason like people automatically assume females are not funny.
Thank God itās not like that on Nostrš«š«š«
I donāt think itās that women arenāt funny but that less women dedicate time to it or pursue careers in comedy. Think of the ratio of male to female comedians. Female comedians are pretty rare and humans instinctively make generalizations about rare things. This is usually referred to as a stereotype. Only a few funny women are needed to break that stereotype though.
But thereās also another aspect to it. People are unique in what they think is funny. Iāve seen clips of comedians that make the crowd laugh but I donāt think is funny. Some people like dark humor, some like over the top humor, some like offensive humor, and some like dorky fart noises š
Oh yeah 100% happens in all single gender dominated fields.
I have had female friends say, āI just donāt think women are that funny, I prefer male comediansā and my response to that is you just havenāt met the right one yet
Yeah I agree. I think a lot of politics messes it up too. Some of the female comedians are trying to imitate the styles of male comedians in order to prove that theyāre funny which is a losing battle. Some of the funniest women Iāve listened to are in improv though! The nice thing about improv is that you have to be yourself.
