That’s the plan.

I also want to develop an automatic transfer switch so it can switch over to 120VAC in the event there is no power from the solar panel and the battery pack is depleted. Need to make it so power is not lost in the transition from DC to AC.

So you need an AC/DC converter and a 24:1 stepdown. Or just find a plug that is used for DC appliances that works at 5 volts and a transfer between it and batteries. Hmmm

Checkout some videos from The Tech Prepper on YT. He did a few on making an off grid setup for portable radio operations. Might find some inspiration

Thanks for the pointer! Yeah I don’t think the AC-DC conversion will be a challenge. Pretty standard.

Just need to decide on the battery chemistry (I’m thinking LiFePO), design the solar charge controller, step down the DC to 5VDC while allowing for ~ 2A draw.

It’s going to be a fun project.

I think that would be your best bet on batteries

My goal is to make it all open source and relatively affordable. Trying to channel the bitaxe instigator nostr:npub1ql2zzp3g6yndgz05js7wdc4qkr88wkyne5nw2cc7csrtzqs0yeesgwrxya with this project.

This guy also has some off grid power articles. Building batteries etc
