This makes me excited! No idea what you have in mind but I’ve always liked the way Apollo did threads for Reddit.

I’m not original poster, but here is an example I just found of a thread.

Nice, thank you!! I don’t know at what point that design breaks. How many levels that can handle?

Just counted and it looks like it goes to 7 comments deep (at least on one I looked it) and then has a link for “Continue thread,” which opens another page with the thread continuing.

Here’s an example of what that link looks like:

Here’s another example

Ohhh I see how they handle insane levels. They truncate when reach a point that is not usable. Thank you!

Your welcome and thank you. Yeah at a certain point comments are collapsed. I think sometimes it is because of how deep they are nested and others from not having enough upvotes.

Here is an example where the most indented comment is 10 levels deep. The comments are color coded for the indent level. It goes no color, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, purple and then starts repeating at red, orange, etc. The colors really help keep track of the indent level in massive threads.

I wonder if we could get Apollo’s developer to join Damus or make his own Nostr app since Reddit forced him to shutdown. That would be pretty cool.

Here is an app for Lemmy that is mimicking Apollo very closely if you want to play around with how it does comment threads. It is a PWA too!
