I think we need to consider the speed with which we can talk today compared to even 15-20 years ago. If you listen to the AIP guys, they constantly talk about the fact that everyone in SV is on a phone thread with everyone else talking about things in real time. Combine with Twitter/Media, and contagion can spread exponentially.

Still, I agree if ANY sort of talking will cause your bank to fail, it's a problem with the bank (consistent with your initial post, Jason).

The issue is that every bank would fail if we had some sort of six sigma event, where everybody decided to pull the money out at the same time. This would never happen organically. It could happen with enough of the right people, saying the right things on social media, and the help of a few algorithms. It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to think of a scenario where someone could be attempting to spark a bank run for their own ends.

There’s a number of institutions that only work if people believe that they’re actually working, like democracy, so I reject this ideology that if misinformation can destroy it, it shouldn’t exist.
