I think we simply ask too much from those leaders.

In the old days a king needed to be on topic on most stuff, from how to efficiently farm, to monetary issues, war, etc., basically covering everything.

If they didn't know they relied on trusted counselors.

Now transfer that prefered know all to current complex world.

It is simply not possible to even come close to understanding all needed field of interests with current complexity off every topic involved.

The scope is so vast and the fiat mindset so widespread it is just as hard to form a capable trustworthy team around you that works.

This last aspect is clearly visible in every single Government.

The complexity, size, and forces to turn to the dark side is just too big.

And if somehow solved, the huge power structure is so tempting to sociopaths it will be a matter of time before the wrong person penitrates and comes to power..

Downscaling in size, reach and power is one of the solutions I see.

If that means a bit less technology, luxury, convenience, and so on, I think I will cherish that !
