Engagement will grow with time as you find your people and they find you.

It is a little confusing because it's wildly different than most anything else. I think it will take off because it is different, not because of the promises it can make but things it enables that weren't possible or very efficient before.

It's very different. Some ways good, some ways bad.

The "keys" thing is a blessing and a curse I think. It's great to enable easy sign in, and sharing your identity between different sites. But what about people who always lose passwords. Afaik there is no way to recover an account? That seems like a major missing thing for most potential users. Amber is a good start, but still, a key being lost or stolen means you basically lose your entire identity, with no possibility of recovery. 😬

Right... write down your private key some place safe. Treat everything on your first key pair as an experiment if you need to.

Passwords only get lost because they have become disposable. People only need to care so much because someone will fix it for them with very little effort from themselves. (This is also the person who could kick you off a platform) Freedom = responsibility 😊

Hmm I have noticed this concern gets hand waved away as nothing. This makes me think this will forever be a niche thing.

Command your whole identity with a single key, but a single rogue app, or someone getting access to it somehow, and it is lost. People have a lot of energy and time tied into online identities. Being able to recover from lost or compromised keys is essential I think. Hopefully some work is done on that, I think a solution is necessary for Nostr to succeed.

There are a lot of people trying to solve that problem. Its a tricky one.

There is also nothing preventing someone from making a fully traditinal password dependent platform on nostr but the user would not control their identity at that point. It would completely defeat the censorship resistance.

It's a great concept. I hope solutions can be found.
