As an outside observer of this commujity w zero comms or sigs experience, is this what i should hold out for and start with??
It's pretty good. It has all the stuff and doesn't need a phone once you get it set up. I like the WisMesh Pocket for one that connects to the phone via BT, though.
They look great! I have the original T-Deck and don’t really need any more Meshtastic devices but I still want one of these!

This one is fully assembled out of the box. You do a couple of little setup things and it's ready to go.

Just got mine a few days ago. I upgraded the antenna and built/flashed the fancy firmware on it. Its missing features but pretty slick.
