"Freedom of Speech is not Freedom of Reach.

We should not give bigots and Paedophiles a free platform." - Sacha Baron Cohen

#asknostr - As a platform that advocates for freedom of speech, what are your thoughts of Sacha's speech? πŸ‘‡

My take away from his speech are:

a.) Dangerous to have a handful of corporations use as a propaganda machine like ads regardless whether it is true or lie.

b.) Social media ads must be fact checked before running it.

c.) Hate speech, bigots, PD, must not be given platform as part of their freedom of reach.

Questions:

1.) Do you agree of the above quote from Sacha?

2.) Where do you draw the line?

It's dangerous to have ANYONE deciding what is fact on the behalf of the people.

indeed. Whether online or in person, we ought to decide for ourselves and not corporations or anyone for that matter. πŸ‘Œ

Meh, they've already got a free platform- the real world. Blocking hate speech online isn't going to stop hate speech. Plus, who draws the line as to what is or isn't hate speech?

Also, with nostr, if you don't like what someone is saying you can instantly block them.

Don't want to hear hate word 'x', just block all posts containing hate word 'x'

Spot on πŸ’―. Taking away your "free will" does not sit well for me. Yes, there are people who are negative but there is the "mute" option. As for PD or violence, I do not agree with it. If they intend to do crimes, they will always find a way regardless of the tool. Unless they are "properly stopped". But I do not believe the tool (online, tech, internet, etc) itself is the problem. ☺️

This guy is a hypocritical clown

I was surprised when I saw his speech considering he used the same "sketch" his entire career. Don't get me wrong, his satire work is funny to some degree until he went overboard.

So you can punish people for speech once it reaches far enough? No thanks
