A little cousin of mine(8yrs) wants satoshis for his birthday. Is there a good way to gift like 50k sats? He doesn’t have a phone obviously and says he wants to hodl

Show him his gift, hodl for him, and give him updates every year on his birthday until he has his own wallet?

I was thinking of getting a jade wallet or something but the utxo thing is stumping me, dunno if I’m overthinking it

Which part is stumping you?

Wouldn’t that utxo be too small for future use, potentially?

One day it will be very valuable, and who knows what transaction sizes will look like. I don’t think I’d put that much on a jade as a single utxo, but it’s a great place to start if you hold it for him until he stacks for himself. Could always combine a bunch later on?

Probably set up a wallet for him and hold it until he's ready for self-custody. If you trust he can keep it safe, you can always do either an OpenDime (https://opendime.com/) or a SatsCard (https://satscard.com/).

I was about to look into those options actually, thanks

There used to be a way to load LN sats on a QR, print, and scan to redeem...

But that was like a year ago and I forgot to bookmark.

😅

Pretty sure that's still around. Lightsats.com

50k sats is a bit small to do on-chain. You can uncle jim a hosted wallet for him on an Alby Hub and give him updates each year, and add to it. Then, when there are enough sats in it for a decent UTXO, move it to an open-dime or satscard to give him.

I d just set up a wallet with 12 seed words, write it on a greeting card including the amount and block height. In a few years he can take the wallet of his choice.

I made an isolated address for each of my kids on my alby hub and once they have a decent enough amount to make it worth it, I’m going to move them to their own wallets
