I worked with a major once in the Army whose first name was Dana. I guarantee he got a lot of emails from subordinates addressed to "Ma'am" rather than "Sir,"

[including the first one I ever sent him before I'd met him]

but he is exactly the sort of person who would never in a million years put his preferred #pronouns in his email signature block.

It would have been such a simple thing, but being coded as "woke" is infinitely worse to such a mind than being mis-gendered.
