The internet was originally about connecting with people around the world, not followers and likes.

This is what big $ attacking your psyche does.
Go look at the teens, OMG it’s fucking sad!!!!
The more followers, the more connected you are with the World
Not really
I appreciate your position, but it’s also very naive
If you don’t have any followers, your message doesn’t get that far.
Nostr does seem more “fair” in that there isn’t algorithms pointing towards specific users, but that is also a fault as well.
Also, I still appreciate “likes”. It isn’t all about the Zaps
True.
But I still appreciate the ability to indicate an appreciation as feedback and receive it. Likes help show what you say has value or even that people are seeing it. Without any feedback it's just a broadcast medium and could be talking to a brick wall.
Optimizing for "engagement" can bring more eyes on ads, but doesn't mean that the experience is positive
We all have a stake in the future of the internet, and it's up to us to shape it for the better 🌍 That's why I'm excited by the potential of decentralized networks to create a more open, democratic, and innovative online ecosystem more inclusive of everyone, nostr is a great way to go about this :)
It's time for us to build together and redefine the future 🌌⚡️
💯
I was there. “Followers” weren’t a thing on IRC, BBSes, Usenet, or anywhere on the early web. There were no influencers.
I wish I was there.
I was a kid at the time, but a friend’s mom’s boyfriend ran a BBS and taught us all how to dial in, so my first exposure to the Internet was completely text-based. Pre-web, pre-AOL or Prodigy, on a B&W Macintosh SE with a 2400 baud modem. Downloading a low resolution picture took minutes.
That’s what I enjoy about #nostr
So much easier to find others to connect with, then follow 🧡
What it has morphed into has me more convinced its all a simulation. Everything is simply about getting a dopamine hit but not doing anything meaningful
People will do anything to get likes and followers, it’s wild to see how far it can go.
Yes and especially at Instagram, Twitter etc
Letting go of the constant care of what ppl think about you is so important and crucial to being secure with yourself and mind
I 100% agree with you :)
But I think we’re in a time where our generation, & especially the younger generation, are struggling with this because of how we use social media.
You can even see that change/behaviour irl and society. I hear and see young males and females being extremely insecure about themselves because of their excessive use of social media, including likes and followers.
Ex: you’re not popular enough if you don’t have this many followers or likes on your post
Ugh, no wonder this generation our, including myself, are struggling with mental health 🤍
Exactly. The healing and inspirational powers of a million ideas, from a million different people, from all walks of life and from all the corners of the world.
I’ll let the River of thought cover me, seep deep into every pore, cover every cut and bruise, and I’ll return a new man. A better man. A man educated in the back alleys of the world.
💯 and that was when it was at its best. Nostr feels like it is recreating the early internet and I love it 💜🧡
follows and likes are connections
