It's entirely possible that if we're in a simulation, it's powerful enough to simulate masses of people.

Yea I agree, and also am pretty convinced about the simulation theory.

History just shows a slippery slope when we lose respect for each other’s humanity. If we cannot know whether or not people are NPCs or not with certainty, we have to assume they aren’t.

"Winning" in this reality/simulation seems to be about holding paradoxes. Truth always exists in what appears to be paradox.

To know that NPCs exist also while knowing it's impossible to detect them with certainty. To treat everyone as a sovereign soul in various states of consciousness, while knowing that anyone might be soulless. To do otherwise seperates you further from your higher self. This is the distinction between discernment & judgement.

It's a game of integration in a world of seperation.
