It's certainly easier for laypeople to tinker.
Much slower, now that we have GUIs and frameworks, and stuff. And everything is so fiddly. So many layers.
Straight COBOL or FORTRAN on a mainframe with endless paper, FTW.
Easier & faster to prototype, that's for sure.
