Too bad I'm shutting down my lightning node. It was my second attempt in 2 years. First time it was a hardware failure on a home server and I didn't notice and channels were remotely closed. Last attempt was on a VPS in the cloud. I monitored via Zeus on mobile but it didn't tell me mynodee became out of sync and 8 good channels were forced closed right at the highest in bitcoin fees.

VPS fees were not covered by the routing fees alone. I was loosing too much money and my motivation for running a low fee node has shifted recently.

I shut my LN node down earlier this year because it was having issues. I was debating spinning up a new one on different hardware or even cloud based, but I'm having a really hard time justifying it when there are simpler self custody lightning solutions like Phoenix. Stories like this make me want to do it even less. It really seems like running a lightning node is not really something worthwhile for a casual hobbyist without an extensive technical background and significant resources to keep it maintained. 😑
