In general…? Never . Unless broken pieces . Then other technics are involved .
In try Conservation work, as much as possible work must minimum. In Restoration & Conservation, reversible methods must always be used .

How does it work?
Example : Tiffany method, Conservation epoxies (major one developed by the Corning research labs for antique ceramics), like HXTAL, Araldite, Paraloid etc
All can be reversed in a high satured environment of acetone.
