Can anyone give a solid steelman of the USS Liberty conspiracy theory? I’ve never understood how this could possibly be a false flag if the Israelis immediately admitted to the mistake?

There is no conspiracy theory.
The Israelis murdered 34 Americans and admitted it, but what they don’t admit is the prolonged assault and repeated attacks trying to sink the ship- while the Americans were contacting them on radio to stop.
Yes, I understand that’s what happened. But to be a false flag attack is when you pretend to attack as someone else. Israel attacked with fighters clearly marked as Israeli and then immediately admitted to being the attacker. They never pretended it was Egypt who attacked.
