Scratch the Librem Scam devices, though. :D
Discussion
I disagree.
There have been shipping and manufacturing issues with the Librem 5 hardware that I think could have been handled much better. Not thrilled about that at all. The lack of clear communication and expectation setting did not help. Clearly communicating the Librem 5 is for early adopter and developers I think would have resolved many of those issues, as well as setting expectations and clear timelines. The hardware product design of the Librem 5, I think can also have many improvements, I won't elaborate on it now. If they don't resolve these issues, they will have a hard time, that is for certain.
However, contribution towards mobile linux with Phosh, libhandy and etcetera have overall been good. Other hardware like the Librem Mini and Librem 14 have shipped timely and the hardware has worked great.
It's also great there is hardware competition here from Pine64 and the PinePhone Pro looks like a great phone. They communicate that it's mostly for developers. The form factor is good and I think a good direction.
With the distribution of postmarketOS running on many different devices there are many other hardware options as well.
Pura Vida!
Purism seems to me to be a fundamentally dishonest company. They didn’t just communicate poorly, they lied. Repeatedly. And have refused to take responsibility for it. They stole from a large number of people. If people received a good product from them, the got lucky, or Purism just didn’t see a benefit in screwing then over at the moment.
I sincerely hope they resolve their hardware manufacturing, hardware design and marketing issues and pull through. Regardless, it is an opportunity for competition like Pine64 and others. Pura Vida!
