A few words about #nostr in #iran

See it for yourself, how many iranians do you see here?

I have actually counted and collected the npubs. There are less than 200 npubs. 90% of them inactive.

And from the active ones I can only attest to a few of them being inside the borders.

Nostr has only three advanges for us,

First, if our gov tries to block a client it is relatively easy to migrate to another client.

Second, no one can remove or delete anyone.

Third, if you know how, you can run your own relay and even client.

That's the sum of it.

But the main source of internet, the mane hose, is still in control of the regime.

They can shut down or choke our connection anytime they decide. And they have done it a lot.

They have manipulated and ruined our internet to the point that I was never able to upload a video here. I tried.

I would have done a lot more if I could upload video.

Our regime, like any other dictatorship around the world, has fosterd cyber-troops, cyber-soldiers.

You bet they would flood the nostr with there bullshit misinformation and disinformation as soon as they know nostr exist and has impact.

And unlike us, ordinary people, they have unfiltered high-quality internet connection and and they are equiped with better devices and servers.

So the mass adoption of Nostr by Iranians can potentioally back fire big time. That is why I was hesitant to promote it more persistantly.

Hold strong there.

It might be worth seeking out meshtastic and "lora" enthusiasts in Iran.

When people make their own network, shutting down the Internet won't be as beneficial to the Powerful-and-Fearful.

If I learn what they are and know someone who knows, I'll tell them to do so
