Anybody remember the Web Monetization API? It was an interesting idea, micropayments to a url, but stuck because it was tied to it’s own token… ugh…

But apparently the Coil token has been dropped… maybe there’s a case for lightning support? Seems like a web version of what we do with Zaps.

Sounds kinda like BAT. Also inferior to zaps.

BAT pays you to view advertising on people’s websites. Web Monetization API is a way of micropayments to publishers. So similar but opposite.

I think BAT initially had something like that on their roadmap, but fizzled out after that first use case.

Brave is a great browser, too, it’s a shame they hadn’t just gone the lightning route. I suppose they still could.

A consortium blockchain can be an alternative for the Web Monetization API where the monetary system and different types of clients are easily connected to pay or receive payments with cryptocurrencies or any other method; perhaps while using Nostr protocol or bridges to get centralized platforms connected or in other words sending zaps across the internet.

I believe there is a cashu plugin to integrate payments using the http payment code 402
