Built my new PC with an AMD 8600G and 48GB RAM. Man! The thing is so much faster than my laptop! 😂 sporting Xubuntu, for now. What's your favorite distro?

Also, video editor for Linux? I thought I saw capcut had a version for Linux, but apparently not. Looking into shotcut.

KDenlive

It works but is buggy and lacks lots of features

i run linux mint

but tried other distros

only a little

I've seen mint but never tried it. Might have to experiment in my free time.

Mint rocks!

Nice!

i will try xubuntu

would you recommend minimal or desktop?

Desktop. I believe minimal is basically CLI-only.

here we go cli only

arch if you have time

endeavour if you don't. you can delete the endeavour parts in the os and you will have a pure arch installation. i recommend plasma.

for beginners mint. it is not on the latest kernel therefore modern computers may not work with it.

fedora is the most modern linux with the latest kernel. you can also run it with plasma.

if you want ubuntu for any reason (i do not know any) i recommend kubuntu.

video editor for linux.

i have personally used blender, openshot and kdenlive. all have their advantages and disadvantages. i liked kdenlive the best for editing videos from my small sony actioncam for utube. i had more than 5000 viewers but i was banned from youtube because i reported about the fake disease and about many protests. they said terms of use violations. you know that...

then i put the videos on bitchute but hardly anyone watched it.

meanwhile there are more opensource free video editors available. i recommend that you try it out which one works best for your projects.

you can try xubuntu

if you do not like xubuntu you can open the terminal and type

sudo apt-get purge xubuntu

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop

it will install gnome

or you type

sudo apt-get purge xubuntu-desktop

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

it will install plasma which is the most beautiful and most adjustable desktop. it is also friendlier on ressources than gnome

you will still run ubuntu but with a different desktop

you can do the same with arch, just the commands are different

and of course also with fedora which has the rpm red hat suse package manager

i try fedora for the next week

Ffmpeg does 95% of what i need for video editing. Bash history saves the commands so i dont need to remember, anything different and LLM's got me covered for the syntax.

Nice! Thanks for the tips.

Nice build! For a workstation it is Alma Linux (Security + Long Term Stability). For personal desktop it is Arch Linux (Fastest + Freshest Repositories). Both with the GNOME desktop environment.

Best video editor IMHO is Kdenlive. I've used it professionally for almost a decade. It gets the job done well.

Kdenlive for video but it deserves the KDE desktop (Kubuntu)

Awesome, keep the Xubuntu 👌

I'm using it as a primary OS for over 20 years😁

Cool! It had been a bit since I tried it, and I have to say, UI scaling has come a long way! Several years ago, 4K looked awkward, but it's basically a good a windows and macos, now.

yeah exactly, it was unusable on high res, at the time it would look good only by selecting a lower screen resolution
