Pecans are the only major tree nut that is truly native to the United States - almonds, walnuts, and pistachios were all imported from the Middle East or Europe.
Pecans have been the OG American nut for centuries 🤘🏼🔥

🤨
Black walnuts are native to the US. There are like double digits of Hickory species native here.
I saw an american chestnut tree 2 weeks ago.
Am confused, please explain
You’re correct about black walnuts being native.
Pecans are the only native American nut that’s commercially produced at scale. Black walnuts, hickories, and chestnuts remain largely wild-harvested due to processing challenges.
Should’ve been clearer about the commercial distinction
Any chance you have done research on the processing challenges of these other nuts? Bc my state has a big black walnut operation, but chestnuts are more interesting to me since they're smaller today than they uses to be and i never heard of processing issues, only that production is low.
That’s cool, would love to see the operation. Pecans are easier and more profitable to shell commercially. Black walnuts require hull removal, have very hard shells, produce fragmented meat, and are much more labor-intensive. Explains why pecans became the commercially successful native nut
