The September Ember Days were one of the first Ember Days established, and they are the most prominent of the quarterly days. The Ember Days in September are outside the main liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter) and are closest to the Fall Equinox. The Church recognized the pattern of change of seasons and bringing in the harvest man needs to give thanks and renew our hearts.

The japanese tempura was created to serve the portuguese missionaries during this period of abstinence from meat.

I didn't know that, that's so cool!

Little seasonal traditions like this are one of my favorite parts of being Catholic

That is what they took from us.

Well, not really. We may always share it with brothers and sisters through invitation to take part in it.

There's a whole discussion to be had about the relative merits of using the law to mandate the minimum versus using it to recommend the ideal. The Western Church tends to lean more towards the former, but traditional practices like the Ember Days are always there if we want them.

One of my projects in life is to live more liturgically with the seasons, fasts, and feasts of the Church, and to bring it into daily life. It's counter-cultural, so it's not easy, but I think it's a worthy pursuit

We can do that together.

Those liturgical calendar events can be more spread by us and exhorting brothers and sisters to do the same.

nice, learning about jap food (should have recognized the latin word...) AND church calendar.

wiki tells about the ethmology..

Amber days no Inglês.
