My new year's resolution is to build a budget and learn to operate under it. Anyone have tips for plaintext accounting or YNAB? I'm still learning, but it seems they should be compatible. Any suggestions are welcome.

Ynab and QuickBooks are great if you don't care about privacy. If you do, the local only options are really limited

Yeah, I'm thinking more the YNAB strategy with local files using plaintext accounting. I installed ledger-cli so just need to set up my accounts in a reasonable way.
