Are roots transporting microplastics into fruits and parts of the plant via absorbing contaminated water?
Or is the test methodology fucked up somehow?
Has the plastic industry contaminated the entire food chain and world?

I think that's part of it. For example, if you drink drink fresh coconut water, directly from a coconut, it still contains some amount of microplastics, so obviously it must be coming from the water the tree absorbs.
