Years ago, I bought two Seagate external drives. They both give "unknown error" when attempting to mount, as of yesterday. 😥
That sucks. There is a utility called spinrite that does low level disk repair. Not sure if it does usb though.

I just found out that they are visable on a Mac. My Linux systems must have received a bad update, or something.
Nothing like realizing your day is ruined only to have it go back to normal.
