How has taproot improved bitcoin? What's the upside to downside ratio on it?

I can understand the calls to ossify (even if they are futile). What is the probability of unexpected negative consequences from further upgrades? Is it a number above zero? I'd rather see base layer frozen but go whole hog on L2s and 3s. Like nostr plus ecash, or supertestnets new LN alternative. Fucking awesome stuff!
