First time since I’ve moved to New Zealand three years ago that I’ve come across a Weta in the wild. Hiding under my deck of all places!
How big are they? Aren’t they the biggest insect in nature?

"Wētā are large, flightless insects, and they are known for their impressive size, with some species being among the heaviest insects in the world."
It’s incredible to learn they’re flightless, considering how it looks.
