"I pray you, let us leave off this usury."
(Nehemiah 5:10)
"I pray you, let us leave off this usury."
(Nehemiah 5:10)
This is exactly why we wrote a song based on Proverbs 6:1–5 a warning that is especially relevant today.
“If you’ve pledged for a stranger… you are snared by the words of your mouth.”
That’s what money is now: a pledge to debt we never agreed to, but carry all the same.
Our song, Let My People Go, is a call to recognise the invisible chains of this system, where every signature, every loan, every handshake in the dark traps us deeper in obligations to a creditor class that hides behind institutions and policies.
> “I shook hands
With strangers in the dark
Pledged my soul
Without a mark…”
The trap is set with paper promises. The system demands payment in labour, assets, and time, not because debt needs settling, but because it never was meant to be. The point isn’t repayment. It’s control.
But Proverbs tells us to “go to the point of exhaustion” to break free.
To run “like a gazelle from the hunter… like a bird from the fowler’s snare.”
> “Let my people go
From the hunter’s hand…
Jah will meet us there.”
It’s not just about economics. It’s about spiritual and personal freedom from a machine designed to for total control while the real wealth is extracted.
Debt is their weapon.
But truth is ours.
And songs like this are how we spread the message.
