From what I gather they were training models at Facebook in negotiation and the bots found a unique way to negotiate in a "nonhuman language".

That's the equivalent of Chatgpt providing a "friendly response" that doesn't answer your question or adequately fulfil the prompted request.

They aren't making new progressive language, they are simply finding interesting ways to deliver upon their algorithm.

It's like if a dead chicken responds to hot grease. Muscles reacting to stimuli is as much life as it is death. Just because it's not English doesn't make it sentient.

That being said the future is scary nonetheless.

The circulating video of AI bots chattering in beeps and boops is simply theatre also.
