I believe it’s because it’s invisible, complex, and impossible to wrap our heads around. It can also bring pain, misery and destruction through storms. It’s the perfect boogeyman to utilize to control people.
I think it's out of pride.
The Earth was here many billions of years before us and will be here long after us.
It will cleanse itself of global warming and its man-made poisoning a few million years after the last homo sapiens will die.
For the planet, it's like the blink of an eye.
We're the ones who are fucked.
