my friend used to call this sound "hell from the sewer" ... i stopped talking to him. mainly because that is dead accurate.

i can maybe be more charitable and say it sounds like Subwoofer over Telephone / music over an HVAC duct or something ...

the bigger question is - wouldn't this make their music electronic if the sound comes not from the instruments but whatever is used to electronically muffle it ? and how do they perform live ?

as an Audiophile my perspective is if music uses physical instruments it should sound as if the instruments are in my room ...

and if we aren't accurately reproducing physical instruments at maximum fidelity then we may as well go full electronic, and in fact full computer ...

but this is just my perspective - everyone gets to have their own philosophy.
