New metal bands?

Any recommendations for new metal acts?

The question was raised in another post by dissi...

I think that's the question, rather than older bands with new material, but feel free to answer however obvs. I'm curious to see recommendations, cos I'm not aware of all that much new in metal.

I do know there's a bit of a death metal revival with bands like Blood Incantation, Tomb Mold, and Worm:

Check out the movie until the light takes us.

I've not actually seen that of the lords of chaos film either. Isn't that just about Varg? Does it have new bands in it? 🤔

Fenriz, Frost, and few others are also interviewed. It's good.

Tells the story of black metal in Norway. Opens with interview from darkthrone.

Maybe not metal in the traditional sense, but they definitely have the energy.

Nice thanks. Not heard of this at all. 👀

Christian metal ftw

Impending doom

There is a fair amount of Christian black metal on my next Christian music mixtape, if I ever make it lol.

Aside from bands like Disma and Funebrarum that are made by guys from the old scenes, newer death metal made by younger guys isn't worth listening to. It always sounds like aggro hardcore with an AI-regurgitated "Old school" wallpaper.

Got any recommendations for wider 'metal' or do you think there's no good stuff about? I literally have no idea what is around tbh. Open to anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i think we both know that me and you are not looking for the same type of music, even if we can understand each other's music with some effort. your thread ( this thread ) should be about what you and your buddies are looking for, not about what i am looking for. i can always start my own thread to address my own interests even if nobody posts in it except me hehe. so don't worry about what my original question was - it doesn't matter.

that said, what i meant is new bands that also bring with them a new sound.

i listened to your Blood Incantation and 2019 is certainly new and i would even say it is pretty good music, but it doesn't sound new and it DOES NOT WANT to sound new, lest it might alienate listeners like you who are looking for a particular sound that they are used to.

so this thread ( your thread ) is really about "new acts that sound old" and it's a perfectly valid question to ask and i hope you get some good answers.

and i will ask my "new acts that sound new" question in a separate thread ...

you're probably thinking - but if it sounds new, then it's not Metal anymore !

so AKSHULLY there has been research into this and basically Metal music is defined by "spiky" mathematics. it's the same as what defines gothic Architecture or the font in your screen name.

so you can bend the genre quite a bit and still be unmistakably metal so long as the "spiky" mathematics are preserved ...

this "spikiness" is associated with things like fear, pain, aggression and so on ... also darkness ...

the opposite of this would be the smoothness and curviness of pinup dolls, cherubs etc ... also pink color ...

well obviously smarter people than me would be able to say more on the subject - i haven't even studied music theory. my point is merely that i see "Metal" as a wide field, that also should keep widening. whereas i imagine you you see it as a niche genre that should stay that way.

personally i think the latest and most cutting edge sound in music is "crunchy" sound, but that of course isn't metal and i will have to find ( or create ) some other community to put it in ...

and like i said you guys are more passionate than me about metal so what you want to see here is more important than what i want.

on other hand i will rule "GalaxyBrainDance" with an Iron Fist.

Lol I really don't mind how people answer. Just curious to see what is about. Contemporary that sounds new would be good, I imagine a lot does sound 'retro' tho, no expectations ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

here is an example of what i would have considered moderately fresh Metal 3 years ago when it came out ( both music videos by Tallah, sorry i don't know many newer bands as i said ):

https://youtu.be/n4X0CG11Byw?si=RWfJbuW9OY0KiWeI

quite like this, it's p much new nu metal (?) to my ears anyway

to me nu-metal was more its own new style around the turn of the century whereas this Tallah stuff is more like an eclectic mix of different Metal sub-genres that came before, with a touch of humor on top.

so it isn't necessarily bringing anything new to the table but recombines the stuff that came before in new ways.

one's range of innovation is somewhat limited when one has only guitars and drums to work with as opposed to electronic music where possibilities are limitless.

this is why i have been focusing on electronic and especially noise music, as those have the least constraints, but that doesn't mean i don't like Metal - it's just harder to innovate in that field.

Gnaw Their Tongues is a bit of dabbling in noise/metal/electronic, not particularly new, but you might like them

too ambient for my taste. i like dopamine music that more "kinetic" ( for lack of better word than ambient / atmospheric. should have attributes like rhythm, mass, speed ... ambient music doesn't have those things.

this is probably a new metal band not deathmetal though https://youtu.be/v_XhxONGEJc

oh I didn't mean to sound like I only wanted new death metal, all metal, just interested to see what is new in metal lol:)

Sleep Token seem to be extremely popular (11m views in the video below) and play within the realms of metal, nu metal aesthetics / elements, as well as pop and rock etc. There's a lot thrown into the mix, it's quite fun really. Seems like a very slick operation in marketing too, it's very internet / Cicada 3301 type thing going on with their lore maybe.

Just first impressions.

Sleep Token - The Summoning

it sounds exactly like "Icon" by Nutronic to my ear

https://youtu.be/i3iJkjYH6Jw?si=BfhF4Ni6ghQqosRz

which is good music but i wouldn't call Metal

or maybe it is ?

I think there's probably debate around it, I imagine at least. But I don't think that interests me too much. They do seem to play with at least some elements of metal aesthetics/theatrics/branding. And I don't care too much, so I posted it :)

my friend used to call this sound "hell from the sewer" ... i stopped talking to him. mainly because that is dead accurate.

i can maybe be more charitable and say it sounds like Subwoofer over Telephone / music over an HVAC duct or something ...

the bigger question is - wouldn't this make their music electronic if the sound comes not from the instruments but whatever is used to electronically muffle it ? and how do they perform live ?

as an Audiophile my perspective is if music uses physical instruments it should sound as if the instruments are in my room ...

and if we aren't accurately reproducing physical instruments at maximum fidelity then we may as well go full electronic, and in fact full computer ...

but this is just my perspective - everyone gets to have their own philosophy.

OK i have posted this to the wrong community. i need to setup Audiophile community now so i can put thoughts like this where they actually belong.

ok so i was just gooning to a Porn Music Video featuring animated 3D girls getting raypd by Horses and shit and i was like dayum this tune is catchy so i used Shazam Chrome Extension to identify the track and here is the official music video for it
