There are conversations at the FEC about dealing with generative AI and political comments and ads. "All the politicians are completely terrified" that someone will release deepfake ads with them saying things they never said. There's a current petition in front of the FEC asking them to do some rulemaking about AI. The government, however, doesn't do content moderation but maybe can legislate against fraudulent representation? YOU CAN COMMENT.

With the level of tech now, one could reasonably spoof both audio and video that would fool a lot of people.
