Exactly, it’s not a solution to censorship, and the instance model is flawed just like fedi.

Nostr is still better but the ppl working on it are censors, which is concerning.

My problem with Nostr isn’t even the soydevs, it’s the fact that there’s no way to bring new communities in. On Fedi, someone can just spin up a domain and shill it somewhere and you suddenly have a whole new population on the network. Gab, Spinster, KF, Poast, and others have done this and completely changed the Fedi culture.

Nothing like that can happen on Nostr, there’s no incentive to host a relay and no one already on Nostr wants anyone except Bitchcoiners to have a voice, so the signal/noise ratio is atrocious to normal people and it will probably never change.

Gleason says this is something he has also considered and wants to fix, and if he can do it, I’m all for that. I just don’t know if he can.

The only way to form communities is to make relays different from one another.

The only way to make relays different from one another is for them to accept and/or forward some messages to some clients while rejecting and/or not forwarding some messages to other clients.

And the only way for THAT to happen is some kind of user persistence on relays, which kinda sorta exists already with profiles, but it's going to have to be more of a community thing.

Clients will need to have views for single ("primary"?) relays instead of just global and following.

And by that point, you've reinvented fedi to some extent, except the user has his own key instead of his identity belonging to a node.

All that to say that yeah, Nostr by its nature encourages an amorphous blob of pseudo-culture that really isn't interesting at all, kind of like a world where everyone is part of the same, amorphous blob of mixed race (coming soon!)

Coracle already has the ability to view by relay

You’re basically advocating for a local tl which isn’t a solution. Relays shouldn’t be opinionated or interest based.

That may not have been the intention but I think some of the paid relays may already be like this (that's hearsay though, obv I haven't been on any of them).

I think they’re literally all bitcoin focused, esp since you can’t join any of them without bitcoin.

i fixed it by sending myself a few bucks 10 or so and joined 5 or 6 paid relays, i think i even had money left over afterwards.

Using bitcoin requires you to dox yourself so it’s a deal breaker for me.

Buy Bitcoin, trade it on a decentralized exchange for monero, trade some of that monero for Bitcoin you send to a new address.

Fees will cost a lot doing that but it's simple and easy.

Considering everyone will eventually be a ₿itcoiner, I don’t see what the issue is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People find their own voice. The technology is just the conduit.

Lol. I'll let the statistics speak for themselves.

Wow, only 700k accounts with a contact list. And it looks like new signups have tanked too.

Things happen in waves over time. Relax.
