Why am I seeing an increasing amount of people on #Nostr endorse Monero? Am I missing something? lol

Transactions on Monero are not on a public ledger for anyone to see. They are by design untraceable.

I hope this helps you understand the difference.

Thw cypherpunk ethos that makes people use nostr instead of twitter

is the same ethos that make people endorse Monero over Bitcoin.

(love bitcoin but tbh, the dominant culture these days is cucked)

“love bitcoin but…” expand here? Do you wish a more privacy centered coin like Monero was the dominant one?

I think privacy is a necessary characteristic of censorship resistance.

I DON'T care if that censorship resistant chain is bitcoin or monero.

But in its current form bitcoin isn't going to be freedom money.

also I found monero first so its my first love anyway 😆

like these supposed bitcoiners that are obsessed with fiat price. smdh

the culture has changed and the priorities have become USD denominated.

"something something Trojan horse"

but they really just get off on imagining themselves as the new 1%, with fabulous USD-eqiv buying power and saying "I told you so" to everyone who got in later.

its pretty nasty and not why I got interested in this technology.

You’re speaking words right now that my mild-OCD learning obsessed brain was searching for. On a surface level so far, I could not agree more with you

Interesting for sure. I do find it absolutely fascinating that Bitcoin was supposed to be the big “fuck you” to the system, and now it’s being handheld by jackasses like Larry Fink & Blackrock because it actually will end up benefitting them.

Then you have people hopping on because “number go up” to just cash out for worthless fiat

Most used and battle-tested privacy coin especially in the most hostile environments (i.e. Darknet Markets). Was banned from another major exchange again last week.

Closest to the cypherpunk spirit imo. More emphasis on private/anonymous transactions, less on price/speculation/hodling.

How are people going to be buying it if it keeps getting banned on exchanges? Or was that only in certain countries, what’s it like in the US currently?

Even if it was banned from every single exchange on the planet it is impossible to stop people from buying it.

Every crypto is one simple swap away from Monero (e.g. Litecoin, Bitcoin, Ethereum)

You can also still buy it directly with fiat using DEXs like Bisq or Haveno

In the US you can still buy Monero using traditional exchanges like Kraken or KuCoin for now if you don't care about KYC

But if you do care about KYC and do it the non-KYC way, won’t you have to pay using a debit card or credit card? Which could then just be traced

Not necessarily. Cash-by-mail is the most anonymous way. But even using payment apps like Zelle, Revolut, Venmo, Paypal, Cashapp, etc they have no idea you are buying Monero. They just see you sending/receiving money like anyone else. They don't know why.

You can also work for it directly or sell stuff P2P
