That's a cynical take.

When you go to Egypt, you can see multiple levels of greatness.

-The ancient pyramids, obviously.

-The middle ages- amazing architecture from them too.

-1800s and early 1900s colonization-era grand architecture.

When I look at pictures of my Egyptian grandparents-in-law (eg 1940s-1960s), it looks like the US from that era. It's very different than Egypt today.

Egypt has been heavily damaged by socialism/authoritarianism and developing market fiat currency.

It would be much better if individual Egyptians could choose which monies they hold, not have their capital constantly debased, and be able to participate in global commerce without frictions.

The "3rd world" is largely a fiat/colonization phenomenon. There's so much energy and capability there. I aim to do whatever small part I can to address the technological money issues, which are very specific to the past half-century.

Egypt is in ruins for the same reason Ukraine is - Geopolitics

Ukraine is Russia's buffer zone and Egypt is Israel's

Not everything is about money

When you directly talk to people on the ground in places, more is about money than you'd expect.

If people can earn and save real capital rather than constantly having capital liquidated from them, that's a huge unlock. Most of the developed countries of the modern era developed on a hard money standard.

Ukraine is a literal battleground between NATO and Dragonbear, so that's a bit different.

Egypt is no warzone. It's an ongoing IMF-dependent colony with money shortcomings.

let's practice pattern recognition for a moment - you said Egypt used to be fine - then Israel was created

Hamas attacks came on 50th anniversary of Yom Kippur war which was fought ( among others ) by Egypt against Israel ...

And now Middle East is in ruins because Israel continuously destabilizes all its neighbors to keep them too weak to pose a threat ...

I am old enough to remember when Lara Logan was raped in Egypt during some sort of revolution there ... and we in Ukraine also had our revolution ... and both countries are trashed

we even had the hyperinflation ( in the 90s )

You say Ukraine and Egypt are in a different situation - i say Egypt is in a WORSE situation than Ukraine, because Russians consider Ukrainians half-brothers but Jews consider Arabs to be animals. also Ukraine is backed by the entire world while Egypt is backed by NOBODY.

Egypt will never rise because Israel won't let them. If Egypt begins to rise there will be a new revolution, new war, another Al Qaeda, ISIS, another religious faction / rebel group to just fuck shit up for seemingly no reason but actually to keep Israel's potential enemies weak.

If the Arab coalition couldn't defeat Israel when Israel was just 25 years old what hope do they have today when Israel has Nukes and the Arabs have nothing. Only real power left on Arab side is Iran and America is ready to go to war with Iran at a moment's notice .

your husband's side of the family should just move to Greece / Italy or San Diego / Miami if they can.

of course it's POSSIBLE to thrive in ANY environment but the environment in Egypt IMO is mostly defined by proximity to Israel rather than anything else.

sound money may be a necessary requirement for prosperity but it is not sufficient. political stability and peace are equally important.

The list of such neocolonies is sadly long. Some seem to be rising up and finding solutions, which are more accessible than ever, but progress can still feel slow.
