There's a good chance they can be recovered

The CDs/DVDs aren’t really too much issue as all the good stuff got released anyway. The current projects SSD failed at the end of the day though, I can’t even see/mount on my Linux machine.

SSDs are designed to counteract sector failure, it's possible to recover it but may be costly.

Just ordered 2 new drives… there’s a back up on Somebody Else’s Computer I can restore from. Just very frustrating as I’d rather be doing other stuff. Also had 2 SSDs just fail now without warning. Trying to figure out why. There’s many many hours of people’s work on this system.

Sorry to hear that, if you’re using Linux then I suggest using a file system called BTRFS. It keeps Snapshots and it’s extremely robust. If you set it up to use RAID 10 then you’re very unlikely to lose data.

I suggest running “journalctl -f” to see any failures or looking through logs. If there’s something causing drives to become corrupt then you want to pick that up as soon as possible!!

Thanks! Have restored from backups so no data lost, just a time drain but will try the journalctl command when I’m back there.

Yeah it’s worth chucking it into duck.ai

I recommend picking a Claude model
