I recently had the experience of informing someone that they had been scammed to the tune of >$500k. Their life savings and retirement savings.

Gut wrenching. It was a fiat scam that used crypto to confuse the victim.

Can anything be done to recover this persons funds.

The scam involved sending a fake USDT to and Atomic Wallet that the victim downloaded. It appears there is a bit of an exploit in the Atomic Wallet where the user sees fake USDT as real USDT. It wasn’t until I checked their wallet on etherscan that I was able to determine that the tokens and thus the entire “investment” was fake.

Someone not trained to notice or check for this stuff would be none the wiser. How do we prevent this from happening to others?

I have had to do this a couple times. Even had to do so in front of a judge in court.

It’s awful. Respect ✊🏼
