Australia passed anti encryption laws in 2018 that compels companies “to create a technical function that would give them access to encrypted messages without the user's knowledge.”

It seems they have recently increased pressure on signal to comply with these existing laws.

I doubt most people even those in Aus that care about privacy even remember these laws being passed.

Laws get passed, there is initial pushback and then we move on to the next thing forgetting about all that we have lost.

Aussies have had so many encroachments, it’s tough to remember them all.

Most don’t even know that this happened:

Yes I remember 4chan being blocked then. That was a glimpse of some real time internet censorship.

They also tried to IP ban some websites and took out 250,000 sites in the process.

Not to mention our ISP and telco data retention laws. 😟

Australia’s public service is packed to the brim with retards - the more retarded, the higher you can go

Or said another way…

Exactly. Which just highlights how these rules are never to catch real criminals. Anyone actually engaging in crime can easily encrypt whatever they wish and nothing anyone can do is able to stop that.

As always these laws are to restrict the rights and spy on average people.
