Bought an alternator to replace the one that broke down yesterday.
Pulled the old alternator. Easy enough.
Put the new alternator into place, but the big hinge bolt wouldn't thread. Tried, tried, and tried to get it to thread to no avail.
Pulled the new alternator out twice. Second time, checked whether the housing bolt holes were aligned. Nope! And I'd just bought it. Refurbished in Mexico it said.
Removed plastic cover, loosened four thin and long bolts holding the housing together. Wound up hitting one half of the housing with a hammer until the bolt holes lined up, but not too hard!
Reassembled it, put it in place, and bam! The hinge bolt slide right through and threaded easy.
Finished installing alternator and tightened alternator belt. Hooked positive batter lead back up. Started up and NO DASH BATTERY LIGHT. Solved, thank God.
But, ugh, looked and tire I got patched yesterday was low. I refilled it again.
Finally, got to St. George, Utah. Um...stunning! Red rocks and towering, snow covered mountains. And the drive from Las Vegas to here, driving through epic mountain and nature scapes.
In short, adventures galore!
