What are we supposed to do, just walk around here like peasants all night?

Like some kind of….. pleb

Boom roasted

I just made you an honorary member of #Nodestrich. Now you can use this one:

roya@nodestrich.com

Omg too kind <3

Now we just need to get you running a node!

Nodes are the worst for your singing voice though

Lol jk bad joke. What’s a node

Here’s two of them. Syncing the Bitcoin blockchain 24/7.

It’s all of the bitcoin data stored on one tiny computer on my shelf. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Ohhh so it helps runs bitcoin for everyone? Like teamwork

Precisely

Thats so cute actually. Like one big family.

Now, how much energy does that take up? Like I know ppl talk about the relation between hvac and bitcoin mining

Nodes are insignificant as far as power and heat like miners. Like one of mine is a Raspberry pi that pulls maybe 15 W? And you really don’t even NEED to put a heat sync or exhaust fan on it, but it’s ideal, so i got one for like $10 off amazon that’s smaller than a credit card and it’s just acting as a standard computer exhaust.

That’s so cool. Thank you for informing me.

So why tf do ppl trip about the energy part of bitcoin… dramatic asses

Mining is more energy intensive. That’s a whole mother rabbit hole.

Ahhh are those your ASICS

Yep. Nodes are like miner’s secretaries. Miners find the blocks, then give them to nodes, who make sure that everything looks good.

Omg I wanna be your secretary

I’m really glad my snarky comment on Roya’s post turned into 1,347,568 notifications about mining last night lol

Right. Some people run a few at home and they generate heat that can be vented or used for other purposes. Industrial mining operations use enormous amounts of electricity, usually stranded energy that can’t be put to use anywhere else. Geothermal and hydropower are some of the best sources.

Could nuclear energy subdue the climate aspect that everyone complains about with bitcoin?

On the industrial ones

Yes, it’s probably the best and cleanest energy source, but new nuclear power plants been sidelined for decades. Nobody wants to build them, despite the fact that they’re much safer and more efficient than anything else that could be built.

Didn’t one just open in Pennsylvania like a month ago? Or something like that?

Lame asf… I’ve learned so much tonight thanks to y’all. Thank you so much for always lending a hand in my bitcoin journey

Can someone help get #[4] a tour of the Bitfarms facility in Kansas City?

this is right up my hvac alley omg. I did not know it was fans like that.

Also in KC??? I’m going to KC in July for Taylor swift, perfect timing

I also wonder if any hvac ppl have invented anything to help with all of it. Idk

They make specialty containers to hold lots of miners that are literally engineered to route air efficiently. You would love Upstream Data.

March 14, 2023. The day #[3] became a bitcoin mining ventilation specialist.

Seems interesting. I mean ASICS can literally be integrated to heat your home right?

In a perfect world everyone has an asic that heats their home

Just looked it up and this guy DIYd it. Looks pretty easy honestly. https://bitcoinmagazine.com/guides/how-to-heat-your-home-with-bitcoin-mining

I do think 3d printing the duct to asic mount is not smart, plastic is probably not a smart move

#[6]

I was about to tag. 🤝🏾🤝🏾🤝🏾

CryptoCloaks is a 3d printing bitcoin company and they do home mining duct stuff and they ran tests on all their models and had 0 warping or anything. Not sure what they use, but I assume it’s some like high temp PLA.

Wait that’s so cool. I’m so glad my lame job can help with bitcoin

They also just made a guide to making a space heater that’s silent. It’s amazing. https://www.cryptocloaks.com/the-future-of-space-heaters-s9-bitcoin-asic/

I would do people homes for bitcoin.

It looks 10x easier than the commercial shit I have to do

Look up CryptoCloaks as well. They designed, tested, manufactured, and now sell a 3D printable ASIC space heater.

https://www.cryptocloaks.com/product/s9-space-heater-case-bitcoin/

This company runs a consulting service doing just that. It could be your niche!

Thanks for sharing all of these resources everyone. So many good guides/information here.

checkout this company of a fellow dutch Noderunner here; he's doing this exact thing for businesses - amazing rly: https://bitcoinbrabant.com/en/

look it #[2]

Yes! It's only a matter of time.

Yessss

Omg so slay. I want to repair some of these things. ASICS look fun to mess around with.

Damn those black boxes are insane. Imagine doing a show with that in between

Thanks for sharing Upstream Data. There products look cool!

I've wanted to figure out a way to use asic heat to cure water based finished for our business. Some product like this could help I think... 🤔

https://shop.upstreamdata.ca/

*their (typo king)

Similar to @roya wondering about HVAC applications, I wonder if something like curing finishes has been done?

I’m running a Raspberry Pi, which is probably around 6 watts, so fairly minimal. Your refrigerator is probably ten times that. This doesn’t mine the blocks, it just downloads and verifies them. And of course, it can open channels on Lightning.

Can my 2018 MacBook Air run one

I believe so, but I’ve never done it on a machine that I also use for other stuff. Usually people do it with old computers or cheap small ones that that’s their only purpose. But i’m theory, I think you can. As long as you have about 1TB of free storage.

Probably, but only if you’re willing to install Linux OS on it and leave it running 24/7 and not use it for anything else.

I’ve honestly been wanting to build a computer lately. My developer friend has two massive ones.

Need it lid open and on, yes, but homebrew for macOS has bitcoind and graphical bitcoin builds available. I’ve run them in pruned mode for years.

Yes depending on storage you can run a full node or pruned node. Just download bitcoincore.org

Oop…. I have the smallest storage

You can run a pruned node, you pick how much of the blockchain to store on your computer once the whole chain has synced which can take a few days.

Interesting, thank you 2pac

My pleasure

Too kind my dear #[5]
