Pools or PPS pools?

I think pools are the only way to make mining pay (which it has to) for smaller miners, but Pay per Share has allowed Bitmain to subsidise payouts for pools which has allowed them to gain dominance outside of hardware, which has compounded the problem of centralisation.

Pools in themselves are good for mining.

Pools are a risk against decentralization. Small miners are the best solution in the long run. You pay the energy as an insurance for network security, if you get lucky in finding a block the better.

You're talking about home miners.

What about small miners that are doing most of the work and will probably never hit a block. How can they justify spending thousands a month with no return?

That is exactly my point. No need for small miners if every home has a smaller miner.

Using your argument, the current peak has rate of 1ZH/s would require 1 billion homes to run 1 TH/s BitAxes
