I wouldn't say a partner is a mirror per se but rather more of a puzzle piece that when joined with you becomes a completed, and unified one.

OK so right there that is an admission of incompleteness. If you experience this completeness in and of itself, then you could infer that anyone else using a partner to fill the gap is using the partner as a shim for completeness. And the story you made up inside your head about your other half (your partner) is not actually going to be an identical match (even if you did find the perfect match) because you will grow as a person.
